Default How to get Word to "Remember" the Data Source

Hi.
I have a Mail Merge Document that I use frecuently.
However, I'm kind of tired of having to direct the Document to the Data
Source every time I open it.
Is there a way of having the document "remember" the Data Source so it
doesn't ask me every time?
Best Regards and Thanx,
Albert C

Are you saving the mail merge main document after attaching the data source
to it?

Hope this helps.

yep.
It is a password protected Document, though. You think this has anything to
do with it asking for the data source each time?

What happens if you remove the protection? What is the data source and
where is it?

Removed the protection and saved. Still got prompted for data source.
The data source is a pretty straight forward Excel file stored on the same
directory as the Main Merge Document (on my hard drive).

Default How to get Word to "Remember" the Data Source

Which version of Word?

This won't fix the problem, but it may give us a clue as to what is
happening in this particular case...

If it's Word 2003, once you have opened your document with the data source
attached, can you
a. start Word|Tools|Macro|Visual Basic Editor
b. Open the "Immediate" window (it may already be open at the bottom
right - otherwise use View|Immediate Window

Type the following, press the Enter key, then copy/paste the result into a
reply to this message

print activedocument.mailmerge.datasource.name

then edit the line so it reads

print activedocument.mailmerge.datasource.connectstring

and press enter again, and copy the result (it could be long!) into the
message, then do the same thing using

print activedocument.mailmerge.datasource.querystring

If it's Word 2002, at least one of those commands may crash Word, so instead
can you
a. use File|Save As to save the document as a "Web Page", then close the
file
b. open the main .htm file you just saved, using NotePad, (or check Word
Tools|Options|General|"Confirm conversion at open", then select Plain Text
when you open the .htm file in Word)
c. look for a block of information about Mailmerge, and copy/paste it into
a reply to this message. The block will look something roughly like

w:MailMergeMainDocTypeFormLetters/w:MailMergeMainDocType
w:MailMergeLinkToQuery/
w:MailMergeDefaultSQL/
w:MailMergeQueryStringSELECT * FROM
C:\DOCUME~1\pjj6ht\LOCALS~1\Temp\OMM1.doc/w:MailMergeQueryString
w:MailMergeDataSource
HRef="C:\DOCUME~1\pjj6ht\LOCALS~1\Temp\OMM1.doc"/w:MailMergeDataSource
w:MailMergeViewMergedData/
