You can't really...backgrounds are not for Word docs, but rather are
for documents that you convert to web pages.

However, you can get around that somewhat if you have some image you
want to apply by inserting the image as a watermark or as an image in
a TextBox and then typing on top of that image.

Hi Lisa Faye,

It depends on your version of Word.
Word 2002 allows you to use Insert=Background
but it's not printable.

Word 2003 allows the same option and you can
choose whether or not it prints in Tools=Options=Print
