Every time I try to delete more than a single character I get a "Delete
Block? No (Yes)" question in the lower left-hand corner of the Word 2003 GUI.
How do I turn this off?

ToolsOptionsGeneral. Uncheck WordPerfect user options.

Turn off the options referring to WordPerfect in Tools | Options, General.
