Default Image display problems

I have developed a Word template for a corporation but it has one major
flaw--images, whether copied or pasted, or inserted using the insertpicture
menu option, do not display properly. The bottom third of the image is
visible, but the remaining two thirds is blank and empty.

I've tried the Tools/Options/View/Picture placeholders option with no
success. Images import just fine into regular documents, so some setting is
off with the template. Any ideas anybody? Thanks.
