You can attach a different template and update styles, but this will not
transfer the document-level formatting (margins, paper size, header/footer,
etc.); for that you have to create a new document based on the template and
paste or insert the existing document into it.

While it's possible to apply styles from one template to a document
based on another template, you won't get page layout (page size,
margins, orientation, etc.) that way.

Instead, create a new blank document based on the new template. Then
use Insert File to bring the text of the old document into the new
document.
