Default How do I convert a Excel 2003 file into a Word 2003 file (table)?

The Excel file is large, some 550 lines and the Word file is small. I have
tried "insert" and "copy and paste" but in each case the formatting is lost.
I also want to ensure the copied Excel data cannot be modified.

Regards

DD
