Default Select Table Column

I have been using (and very much enjoying) Word 97 for many years. (In fact,
ten).

But I am now also using Word 2003.

How do I select an entire column in a table in 2003? In 97, you would hold
down the Alt key and mouse-click inside the column. Now that command brings
up a "Research" option!

You can still Alt+drag to column-select in ordinary text; you just have to
be careful to keep the mouse button depressed so that it doesn't register as
a click. In tables, you can Shift+right-click.

Thanks. Tables is what I was looking for.

Is there a way to remap the Shift+right-click to Shift+left-click? (It's not
possible in Tools=Customize as far as I can tell)

Thanks

Unfortunately, no. And the one I really missed at first was Alt+double-click
to select the entire table. There's no workaround for that one at all--at
least not for me. You can use Alt+Num5, but since my numeric keypad is
inaccessible, that's not an option for me. For users working in Print Layout
view, clicking the table handle works (provided it's in view), but I usually
work in Normal view, so that's no help.
