I have just solved a tricky problem so I figured I could just post the
solution here for information and archive purposes. Problem: I had a .doc file that I converted to RTF with Word 2000. When I opened the .rtf file, I would have a "The document name or path is not valid" error message. I have searched for this problem in newgroups and in Microsoft KB with no success. The KB224016 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/224016) was not of any help. The solution was: There was a corrupted FILENAME field in the document's footer. The field code was "{ FILENAME /* MERGEFORMAT }", with two spaces between "FILENAME" and "/*" instead of one. This one was hard to figure out I hope this will eventually help somebody.
