Why do my outline numbers disappear?
I have an outline number style for technical specifications that are being
edited by a number of people. Every so often when I open a file, the first level numbering is intact but the subparagraph letters and numbers are gone although they are correctly indented and the style pane indicates that the right style is applied. I have recently switched to Word 2003 but not everyone in my organization is using this version. |

Do they reappear if you click in the paragraph and press Ctrl+Q?

I will try that - the problem is sporadic. The files are saved on a WAN
network and I can't tell who the last person in the file was. I just checked the current files and they are all OK but that may change tomorrow. "Suzanne S. Also make sure that numbering is properly linked to styles as
described at http://www.shaunakelly.com/word/numb...Numbering.html and that the option to "Automatically update document styles" is cleared in the ToolsTemplates and Add-Ins dialog box. -- Stefan Blom Microsoft Word MVP "Sammac" wrote in message ... Yes, I have done that. I learned from experience to clear the 'automatically
update' box so that's one of the first things I check. I've also had luck checking it to let it update and then unchecking it before I save. This time, however, all my troubleshooting tricks aren't working. Yes. I've been using this numbering style for technical specifications for
nearly two years. I've only run into trouble after I was upgraded to Word 2003 and when I receive specs to edit from another office on our network.
