Turn off Automatic Formatting
Hey all! I'm baaaa aaack! LOL Updated my computer to Office 2003 and have
a question about formatting in Word. I'm trying to insert a picture in a document, behind text, and still have the text at the top, not at the bottom, of the picture. (Not explaining this very well, am I?) Ex.: Starting line is: Sponsored by Then, I want the picture (co. logo) directly behind "by", yet when I insert it, the line "Sponsored by" drops to in line with the bottom of the picture and the formatting turns to "Body Text". I've tried highlighting the line and changing the style to Normal, but it won't change. I've checked all the formatting options to be sure I've turned off all the auto formatting I don't want to use, yet it still formats automatically, and won't stay in the format I want it. Help!!! -- I have a "love/hate" relationship with computers - I love them, they hate me! |

Turn off Automatic Formatting
You probably need to change the wrapping on the picture. I suspect it is 'in

Thanks, I hadn't thought of that. Seems stupid to have to do it that way,
though. In 2000 Pro, I could format how I wanted to, and it would kind of stay, no matter if I was using pictures or not. I'm not so sure I like 2003! Word Art isn't as cooperative in 2003 as it is in 2000. Can't get it to let me resize the text using the box, can't change the shadow colors, etc. Wish I could have bought 2000 Pro for what I spent on 2003 through TechSoup - $25.00/license. I would not have changed if it hadn't been for our program and disk going bad. -- I have a "love/hate" relationship with computers - I love them, they hate me! Turn off Automatic Formatting
You can do all the same things with WordArt in Word 2003 that you could in
Word 2000. Some of the controls are on the WordArt toolbar; for other aspects (such as shadow type, color, depth, direction), you use tools on the Drawing toolbar (since WordArt is now treated the same as any other AutoShape). -- Suzanne S. Thanks, I think I have some of it figured out. Just wish it were easier!
2000 was easier to use, I still think! Still cannot get the auto formatting to stop, though. I had to put the logo in a text box, then align every thing. Turn off Automatic Formatting
You should not need to put the AutoText in a text box, but note that in
recent versions AutoText objects are created In Line With Text. If you want to move them freely or rotate them, you have to change the wrapping to some other style. Thanks, Suzanne. I just need to have time to sit and play with it - get used
to the way it works. I still really prefer 2000, though! ;-) I wish Microsoft would make a program for those who know more than the "average" person and not just assume one wants to do something.
