Turn off automatic TOC formatting
I have a table of contents that needs formatted but it changes to the default
after every update. Is there a way to preserve formatting even after an update? |

If you really mean just formatting (the stuff you do in the Format Font and Format Paragraph dialogs), then you need to modify the styles named TOC1, TOC2, etc. In the Format Styles dialog, select a style, click Modify, click Format and select the type of formatting to change. Repeat for each TOC level you use. Do not apply any direct (non-style) formatting to the TOC, because that *will* disappear during each update. If you're editing the wording of the items, there's no way to preserve that through an update. -- Regards, Jay Freedman Microsoft Word MVP FAQ: http://word.mvps.org |
