Default Inactive Add-ins??

I just upgraded my Office 2003 to 2007 and couldn't get page number gallery
up. I thought it was disabled add-ins but there weren't any. According to the
Help file, I needed to go to word options, trust center, trust center
settings, add-ins, tools. I got as far as the second to last step. There is
no tools!

I fixed the page number problem by moving the building blocks.dotx and I got
my page numbers to work.

But now I'm curious about all those inactive add-ins I saw in word options,
add-ins. How do I activate them?

At the very bottom of the Add-Ins tab, there's a drop list and a Go button.
Select something from the list, like "COM Add-Ins" and click Go. Then you
have the option of putting a check mark next to the addin you want to
activate.

The Help topic is a little out of whack, plus you're misreading part
of it.

The "View the installed add-ins" section is correct:

Click the Microsoft Office button, then click ... Word Options, and
then click Add-ins.

You _don't_ go from Word Options to Trust Center Trust Center
Settings Add-ins, which is a different page.

The next part in the Help topic, which mentions Tools, is _only_ for
Visio, Outlook, and InfoPath, which don't have the Ribbon and Office
button. In those programs, you start in the Tools menu (which doesn't
exist in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, or Access) and then go to Trust
Center Add-ins.

The section further down about "Manage the installed add-ins" is
wrong. The click path should be the same as the one for "View..."
above. When you see the list of active and inactive add-ins, you can
select the proper subgroup in the Manage dropdown and click the Go
button. Then you get a dialog where you can enable/disable add-ins.
