Default 100% is merging as 1%

I am merging an Excel 2007 spreadsheet into Word 2007. The field is
{MERGEFIELD "FTE" * 100 \# "0.00%"} 100% merges as 1%; 67% merges as .67%.
What am I doing wrong?

You will do better with

{={MERGEFIELD "FTE"} * 100 \# "0.00%"}

now it comes through as {=1%} instead of 100%

All the {} have to be the special "field code braces" that you can enter
using ctrl-F9, not the ones you can type on the keyboard. You can use
Alt-F9 to reveal/hide the field codes.
