[OT] Swedish grammar / Svensk gramatik
Hello!
This is maybe a bit off topic, but I can't find any other group that could fit. I apologize to all non-Swedish speaking readers! I'm not very good at spelling and even less good at grammar no matter what the language is. Ever so often I get this error when I am writing in Swedish. The sentence is, e.g. Att skapa en märkning. The error: Meningen tycks sakna tembusböjd verbform. Om en sådan behövs kan du försöka ändra på formen hos skapa What does the error mean and how would I fix it? // Anders -- English isn't my first, or second, language. So anything rude or strange are due to the translation |

Word objects to "Att skapa en märkning." because the only verb found
in the sentence is an infitive: "att skapa" ("to create"). A clause (sats) requires a finite verb form (finit eller personböjd verbform). The only exception is in a heading, where you would be allowed to use it -- but then, of course, the full stop should be omitted. More in Swedish: Hur känner man igen en finit verbform? Kanske kan du be någon korrekturläsa din text? -- Stefan Blom Microsoft Word MVP "Anders Eriksson" wrote in message ... Hello! Stefan has answered your specific question. I'll answer the implied ones:
1. The proper newsgroup for spelling and grammar issues is microsoft.public.word.spelling.grammar. 2. The newsgroup for Swedish users is--well, I could have sworn there was a Swedish Word or Office NG, but the only Swedish one I find is microsoft.public.se.design.gallery. sigh -- Suzanne S. For completeness, I'd like to add that finite verbs include those in the
present tense, the past tense, as well as the imperative: Yesterday, I WENT to the store. I WISH that I HAD a million. SPEAK up! (Finite verbs in uppercase.) A few remarks in Swedish about the imperative: För fullständighetens skull vill jag bara lägga till att imperativformen av verbet också räknas bland de finita verbformerna, även om det inte går att sätta exempelvis "jag" framför och få korrekt svenska: SJUNG! HOPPA så högt du kan! -- Stefan Blom Microsoft Word MVP "Stefan Blom" wrote: Word objects to "Att skapa en märkning." because the only verb found in the sentence is an infitive: "att skapa" ("to create"). Jo, du kan se om en verbform är finit genom att sätta "jag" framför. Blir uttrycket då korrekt svenska så har du en finit verbform: Jag SPRINGER Jag SPRANG Lisa HAR sprungit Kalle HADE sprungit Pelle TÄNKTE att han SKULLE gå ut och springa.
