Spell Check proper names
I use Word 2003.
Is there a way to set the spell check feature so it will NOT check the spelling on words with 1st letter capitalized -- specifically proper names? A suggestion to enter the names on the exception list isn't feasible -- I work with dozens of names at a time and they change daily. Thanks. |

Spell Check proper names
You can define a "Do not check spelling or grammar" character style and
apply it to the names you don't want spell-checked. -- Suzanne S. Barnhill Microsoft MVP (Word) Words into Type Fairhope, Alabama USA http://word.mvps.org "punkin" wrote in message ... Spell Check proper names
Suzanne
Thank you for a prompt reply. If your method involves highlighting and designating the names each time I create a document, this wouldn't be feasible because I type many different names every day (and many times a day) and there will be new, different names again tomorrow, etc., etc. I'm creating a typed document with the names scattered inside, so there isn't a list that could be selected globally or all at once. I DO want the balance of my document spell checked. If I've missed the mark on what you suggest, and you think it would work under the circumstances I outlined in my original message and above, please give me a step-by-step method. Thank you. Spell Check proper names
No, it requires only that you define a style and save it in the attached
template. Double-click a name to select it and apply the character style (you could assign a keyboard shortcut to the style). The style should be based on Default Paragraph Font and defined as "Default Paragraph Font + Do not check spelling or grammar." For tips on creating a character style, see http://sbarnhill.mvps.org/WordFAQs/StyleRef.htm. This is no more difficult than formatting a word as, say, bold or italic. -- Suzanne S.
