Default Linking footnotes

I am working on a very large document (250 pages) with many footnotes (500). This is a work in progress, i. e., it will change several times before a final version is attained. During that editing process, footnotes may be added and/or deleted. I know there is a way to "dynamically" link footnotes so that regardless of changes, the reference will always be correct.

For example, assume I am working on draft #1 of the document, and in footnote 135, I would like to say "See n 106 supra." However, in draft # 2, I have eliminated several footnotes both before and after footnote 106 and 135. How do I "link" the old footnote 135 (which may now be, sat footnote 132) to the old footnote 106 (which may now be footnote 89) in draft #2?

Thanks in advance.

Jeff

Well, unless they've changed it in versions more recent than Word2007,
the footnote cross references won't _dynamically_ update as you change
the numbering, but all the cross references update automatically if
you flip into "Print View" and back, or select one or more and press
F9.

You put in the cross references with the Cross Reference tool (and if
I knew you were using Word2007, I would tell you where to find it, but
I don't remember earlier versions and haven't upgraded). It shows you
every paragraph in your document that has numbering and offers several
options for the cross reference.

(It would take me some doing to locate it, since it was one of the
first things I put onto my QAT.)

(BTW you don't get to insert "supra" and "infra" automatically, you'll
have to settle for "above" and "below." But those tags don't work when
the x-ref is in a footnote.)
