Default Word 2003 problems

I would be grateful if someone can help me on this one.
I have Office 2003 Pro.
When I use Word 2003 and I select a language I want to do a spellchecking,
it simply freezes.
I.e. If I have a text that was translated in German and I just want to
change the spell checking to another dialect...
It never happened in the past. I tried detect and repair but to no avail

See http://www.gmayor.com/what_to_do_when_word_crashes.htm followed by
http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/AppErrors/...peningWord.htm and work through
the tips there. Any time it crashes, start again with the first link.
