Close a file in Word without closing the program or going to menu
In former Word programs you could click on X in the right hand corner and
just close the file - when you do that now - the whole program closes unless you have another document open. How can you just close the file without returning to file menu - but still remain in the program. |

Close a file in Word without closing the program or going to menu
Press Ctrl+W or Ctrl+F4 to close just the document and leave Word open.
Also, if Show all windows in the taskbar is turned off (Office - Word Options - Advanced - Display section), then you'll get two Xs instead of one when a document is open. Click the lower X to close any given document, or the upper X to close Word itself. -- Herb Tyson MS MVP Author of the Word 2007 Bible Blog: http://word2007bible.herbtyson.com Web: http://www.herbtyson.com "barina" wrote in message ... You can go to Office button Word Options Advanced, in the Display group, and uncheck the box for "Sow all windows in the taskbar". Among other effects, that will give you a second X button for closing the document, below the one for closing the program. If you don't want the other effects of turning off the taskbar option, use the shortcuts Ctrl+F4 or Ctrl+W, or use the Office button's Close command (which you can add to the Quick Access Toolbar if you want a single-click button). -- Regards, Jay Freedman Microsoft Word MVP FAQ: http://word.mvps.org Email cannot be acknowledged; please post all follow-ups to the newsgroup so all may benefit. |
