If there is no printable page number on the page, then Print Preview won't
display one _on the page_ but you should still see it in the status bar, and
in the tooltip as you drag the vertical scrollbar's "thumb".

There are, of course, no numbers on the pages, but you should see page
numbers in the status bar as in any other view. Perhaps, though, you're
thinking of Reading Layout view? It has "Screen X of Y" at the top of each
"page."
