Error printing .jpg graphics
I have a user who is trying to insert .jpg images into word and publisher
(office 2003 suite) documents, but when she tries to print out the documents, the jpegs print out the top half of the picture twice with colors skewed in second half. Clip art prints out fine, other image formats print out fine, just .jpg seem to be having problems. I have tried to update printer drivers, unistall/reinstall the printer, etc. but this does not solve the problem. Any ideas? |

This is a variation on the problem in which the entire picture is printed
several times, squushed into 2-8 "stripes" on the page. The only workaround anyone has found that seems to work consistently is to disable spooling and print directly to the printer. This must be done in the printer Properties. -- Suzanne S. For another possibility, see
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/843284/ "JPEG image appears two times in an Office 2003 document when you print in Windows 2000". This issue, among others, is corrected in Post-SP4 Update Rollup 1 for Windows 2000 (see http://support.microsoft.com/kb/891861 for more information). http://support.microsoft.com/kb/843284 seems to indicate that this affects
only PostScript printers, but then it talks about disabling advanced printing features for PCL drivers. Having had this problem for some time, I'd love to see a workaround/hotfix (my printer is PostScript-enabled, but I use only the PCL driver), but I don't see any indication in this article or in http://support.microsoft.com/kb/891861 that the hotfix is included in the rollup. -- Suzanne S. KB843284 is the last thing listed under "Fixes that are included
in Update Rollup 1 for Windows 2000 SP4" in http://support.microsoft.com/kb/900345/ , which is for version 1 of Update Rollup 1 for Windows 2000 SP4. But version 1 had a few problems and was superceded by version 2, which is described in KB891861. You are correct that KB843284 is not included in the list of fixes in KB891861, but it appears to be included by reference in the note at the end of the "Fixes that are included in Update Rollup 1 for Windows 2000 SP4" section in KB891861, which references KB900345. Looks like whoever wrote these KB articles also wrote some of the taxpayer instructions for the Internal Revenue Service. The KB843284 hotfix supposedly only applies to Office 2003 in combination with Windows 2000, even though we both know that the multiple-printed-image problem occurs in other versions of Office and in combination with other versions of Windows. I serendipitously found KB843284 while poking around the KB for something else, but I haven't tried the hotfix personally because I don't have anyone left on Windows 2000. Suzanne S.
