Default getting # sign instead of £ in word doc

Hi,

opened a new word document and when trying to type a £ sign end up with #
instead. Driving me mad, know it's something really simple....any
suggestions?? Have tried closing down without saving changes and opening a
new document to no avail.

Does this problem effect other programs?

It sounds like a keyboard layout problem to me... you need to go into your
OS's international or keyboard settings (depending on the OS) and change it
there.
