Default Saving Documents Causes Copies Word 2003

My wife saves her documents to the hard drive as she goes. Sometimes she
uses save as, sometimes the disk icon in the menu bar, and sometimes
control-s. When I go into her foulder to identify and back up these new
files, sometimes, I find the files she saved plus copies of these same files.
There will be the file there by its name say "cm123405" and another file
called "copy of cm123405". There could be any number of files she was
working on that this happens two. I have found as many as 6,7 or even more
files that have copies in her folder. Can anyone explain why this is
hapening or what she is doing that causes this to happen? I am up to date
with virus protection and all updates for Windows XP SP2. Have run virus
scans and spyware addware scans and do not find anything, ever. Any
information regarding this would be greatly appreciated.

'Copy of' is usually attributable to selecting files in an Explorer window
and accidentally copying them into the same folder. It is unlikely to be
anything more sinister than pilot error.

Can you explain this further. She has no other explorer window open. Just
using saving options in word.
