I'm trying to add a picture to a template Word doc which I downloaded from
teh Microsoft Word template site. I can get the picture onto the page but I'm
finding it very diffacult to move about the page - it keeps trying to lock
onto the various text boxes, or invisible pre set positions.

Change the layout wrapping property of the picture to something other than
in-line.

Perhaps you need to disable "Snap to grid" or (if it even exists in Word)
"Snap to objects"?
