Default MS WORD - Document open with prompt to merge changes back to a old

When I open a document, I get a message "Do you want merge changes in New.doc
back into C:\Old.doc" - with 3 buttons "Yes" "No" and "No, and don't ask
again".

I would like to get rid of this prompt (this may be by design) but annoying.
How do I stop this message appearing when I am opening a document.
