Default placeholders

I recently changed the language of my machine to japanese, in order to
install a foreign game. When I opened word, four placeholders appear in the
corner of each page which showw where the text can be placed. After
switching back languages and checking that word was displayed in english the
placeholders still appear. Whilst these are probably helpful, it really
annoys me that I can't get rid of them. I am using Office 2003 on Xp SP2.
Thank you for your help
