Checking footnotes and endnotes in Word
Hi,
[not known version of Word] I was wondering if there is a way to check if none of the footnotes/endnotes in a long document are corrupted (broken links) without clicking on each one individually to see do you want to check, whether their exists footnote text for each footnote reference? Did you see broken links in the past? -- Cheers, Lisa |

Checking footnotes and endnotes in Word
Hello Lisa I have unfortunately seen a document which was sent out in bits to translators and then put back together again and seemed to be corrupted Some links worked but took you to a footnote where the number was omitted, another 'footnote number' was really a superscript number that the translator had put in instead, perhaps thinking that it would make no difference. It's just that as there is an update TOC tool and bad TOC normally displays an error, I was kind of hoping to find sth similar for foot/endnotes. Regards |

Checking footnotes and endnotes in Word
If not all editors know how footnotes work, that is a likely explanation for
the symptoms you are describing. Footnotes (and endnotes) update dynamically, so there is no need to "update" them... Or are you referring to cross-references to footnotes? Please elaborate. -- Stefan Blom Microsoft Word MVP "SafeTex" wrote in message ... Checking footnotes and endnotes in Word
Hello Stefan Blom
Well I'm actually a translator and we use what is known Computer Assisted Translation(CAT) tools In it, the footnotes are handled as tags and so occasionally we can have a problem and a footnote comes out of the process corrupted in some way (often just a problem with spacing) but a tag can be missed and a footnote disappears We're not dealing with footnotes and endnotes in the classic way That is why I wanted to know about running a check |

Checking footnotes and endnotes in Word
OK, it's a conversion issue. Sorry, but if you import or paste data that
Word can't read properly, I don't know a way (from within Word) to fix that. I suppose you could try Open and Repair, but I doubt that it would work. -- Stefan Blom Microsoft Word MVP "SafeTex" wrote in message ...
