Default Default new file save is MS Word NORMAL Template.doc. Why?

Virtually every new Word file I try to save tries to save as MS Word NORMAL
Template.doc by default. I thought new files should save to the document's
title by default. Why is "MS Word NORMAL Template.doc" being selected as the
default save filename? Have noticed this phenomenon since installing Office
XP (2002) on top of previous Office 2000.
