Default Margins in Word

When I re-set my margins it doesn't have any effect. When I open a new
document, my cursor starts at the very top of the page and allows me to go to
the very bottom.

In Word, if you are in Normal view, switch to Print Layout view
(View | Print Layout). If you are already in Print Layout view,
then click on Tools | Options | View | check the "White space
between pages" box | OK.
