Is your Word document already open before you copy from the internet?

No, It has been closed. Prior to this moment I did not have a problem with
cut and past.

Seems to me that you would ALWAYS have a problem with CUT from the
internet. Past? PAST? Never mind. See
http://users.tpg.com.au/bzyhjr/liszt.html "How Not to Get Help in
Newsgroups". You probably installed a Word add-in that empties the
Windows clipboard when the add-in loads. Two common offenders are the
Works Suite Add-In for Word and the Bluetooth add-in. Identify and
uninstall the add-in to restore normal past functionality. Or learn to
live with the add-in by remembering to open the Word document first,
then copy from the internet, and past into the Word document, in that
order.
