Default My "WORD" docs show up as WPS Files which won't open

My letters are written in "WORD" but show up in "my documents" folder as

"WPS" files which I can't open. Can you tell me why this is happening or can
you tell me of a program I can open these file with.

That's Works format, which Word should open -- what happens when you try to
open them?
