Default when I click the office button, nothing highlighted except open

I am trying to convert format from compatability mode to doc. When I try to
use office button, nothing is highlighted to click on except. Open. How do
I get the office button to open correctly? Pat

If a header bar says "compatibility mode," then the file that's
showing _is_ in .doc format. If the Save etc. options aren't
available, then you haven't yet made any changes for it to save.

Do you have Windows set to not display file extensions?

The Office button is context sensitive. In order for the buttons other than
open/new to be active you have to have a document open. For the Convert
button to be available the open document must be doc format. All doc format
files will open in compatibility mode. Word 2007 format is docx/m.
