Default inserting text into footers

I would like to create a running footer that automatically grabs text from
the first page of a report (e.g. the report title). Is it possible to do
this in Word?

This is the function of the Footer (and Header) in Word, yes.
Most people have problems with stopping this from happeining when they want
to change the Footer/Header content mid-way through a document.
If you do not see the Header/Footer in your document and hence cannot enter
text, click on View, Header and Footers and these areas should now be
available to you for editing.
Hope this helps

Forgot to say, if you want Word to automatically capture text and repeat this
in the Header/Footer, See http://gregmaxey.mvps.org/Repeating_Data.htm

Glyn,

I put the title of the document into the documents properties, then in the
footer I would insert a fields based on the document properties and select
Title.

Field/Document Properties/summary tab - enter the title

then at the insertion point
Insert/Field - scroll down and click DocProperty - in the property list
select Title then click ok.

Hope this helps

A StyleRef field will do what you want. See
