Default Mail Merge with Excel - Date not Formatting Correctly

Hello,

I am having some issues with my Mail Merge. I am using Word and Excel
2003. I am bringing over some dates from Excel into Word using Mail
Merge. The format I would like to see for example, is April 7, 2007.
I have numerous dates that are tying into this Word document and I
have added the switch \@ "MMMM d, yyyy" to all of the MERGEFIELDS and
they are working fine, except for one. I get the serial date of 39179.
I have added the switch, deleted it, closed, opened, updated fields
etc.. to see if it will register but to no avail. I know Excel and
Word are communicating because when I change the date in Excel, the
serial date in Word changes to match. It is only this one cell that is
not working in this document. Any suggestions would be greatly
appreciated.

Thank you in advance for your time.

Dan

The offending date is not stored as a date in Excel. Check the data
formatting
or
From the Tools menu in Word, select Options and then go to the General tab
and check the box against the "Confirm conversions at open" item. (In Word
2007 it is Office Button Word Options Advanced General Confirm file
format conversion on open). Then when you attach the data source to the mail
merge main document, you will be given the option of using the DDE method of
connection which should read the data as you have it formatted in the table.

It was stored as a date in Excel. I tried the DDE and it appears to be
working. Thanks!

That was a fail for me. I chose DDE and it lost all my fields and replaced them with some AutoMerge field. Thanks Microsoft.
