Default blank line added at the top and bottom of a page in endnotes

I have a 22 page Word document with headers and footers, and the last 2 pages
are endnotes. When the end of the page is reached, Word inserts a blank line
at the bottom of the page and one at the top of the following page. How do I
stop this insertion? By the way, this is the only place that this happens
within the entire document.

Thanks,

Brian

Switch to Normal view. Then, on the View menu, click Footnotes. In the
Endnotes pane, choose the "Endnote Separator" item. Select and delete
the line. Then select the empty paragraph mark and format it in 1 pt
font size. Repeat for the "Endnote Continuation Separator" item. For
the "Endnote Continuation Notice" item, select the paragraph mark and
set its font size to 1 pt.

Note: To more easily work with paragraph marks (¶), you may want to
display them. Click the ¶ button on the Standard toolbar. When you are
done, click the same button again to hide the marks. For more
information, see

Thanks you for your reply. However, there is actually no Endnote Continuation
Separator or Endnote Continuation Notice. Word seems to insert two blank
lines. When I look at the headers and footers in print view mode, it seems
that these boxes overlap the inserted lines. Could this be the problem?

There *will* be an Endnote Separator or Endnote Continuation Separator on
every page, but they may not be lines. Even if there are no lines, however,
there will still be at least one empty paragraph. This will be easier to see
if you display nonprinting characters. Click in the paragraph and go to
Format | Paragraph to check on other formatting, such as Spacing
Before/After, line spacing other than Single, etc. You can change the font
size to 1 point and the line spacing to Exactly 1 pt to make the separators
virtually invisible.
