Default Number list number is gone when changing style

I have a number list using style "normal":

1. First line text
2. Second line text
3. Third line text

When I select this paragraph and switch to other styles i.e. "Body Text",
the style of word is changed but all the numbers are gone. Is there a way
that I can keep the number when changing style (since some of the paragraphs
have customized bullets/numberings)?

Thanks

You should apply numbering by applying a numbered style, not by applying
numbering to a style.
