Default text direction with page orientation

No matter how I orient my page, my text types in a head to toe direction.
All of my "previews" in my formating screens show this as well. I take an
existing document with correct text direction and page orientation type what
I need, but any new word documents start out the way I described above.

turn these letter 90 degrees left and this is what I'm stuck looking at in a
new doc

If you can help me fix this, I would greatly appreciate the help.

Try "Creating a new Normal.dot from scratch" by renaming your
current Normal.dot as described in
http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/AppErrors/...ocNotBlank.htm .
