Default diff. margin for each line

Dear Group,

My son wants to make a reusable template in Word in when complete would
resemble a triangle. Is there a way to setup a different margin on *each*
line?

Thanks for your experience.

Doug,
He will have to use indents, margins are a page/document setting, different
margins can only be achieved by inserting a new section.
To indent use the markers on the ruler, or use Format - paragraph.

Thanks for the reply.

Will indents achieve the correct spacing on the right side of the
'triangle'?

He'd have to set indents both left and right, and each line would have to be
a separate paragraph, each with its own indents.

Another way to approach this problem, which allows text to wrap naturally,
is to create two triangular AutoShapes (with no line and no fill) to bracket
the text area. Format their wrapping as Tight.

This is a VERY strange request. Would you tell us the purpose of the
Triangle? Is it to wrap text around a triangular shape or is it to please
text inside a Triangular shape? Also, which version of Word?

In that case, Suzanne's solution above is the best way. You need to end each
line of text with a paragraph mark (not allow automatic wrapping), set to
Justified and adjust each paragraph with gradually increasing Left and Right
indents (or start decreasing, depending on which way up you want the
triangle).

In 2003 there is a better way but...

One for each side. You're not putting the text *in* the triangle but between
them. When you add text to an AutoShape, it doesn't take the shape of the
AutoShape; it remains rectangular. So if you want text in the conventional
inverted pyramid, you would use two right triangles, each with the
hypotenuse facing the center. If you want the text in an upright isosceles
triangle, then you need to invert the right triangles so that their bases
are at the top.

You can insert the Pyramid Diagram (from the Diagram Gallery on the Drawing
Toolbar). You then add sufficient lines, so that each section of pyramid
becomes just about one line (of text) high. Remove the Fill and Line
formatting from the Pyramid so that it becomes 'hidden' and hey presto! Add
you're justified text line by line and what you have looks like pyramid of
text. Works either way up too.

Goodness! What a lot of work! And since each line of text still has to be an
entity (you can't wrap and flow text in the diagram), you haven't really
gained anything over using paragraph indents or just centering the paragraph
and using line breaks.
