Default How to turn off auto-formatting of entire document.....

I'm having a problem with auto-formatting. When I highlight text and then try
to format it, for example by hitting CTRL-B, the whole document is formatted.
I have to hit CTRL-Z so that the document is unformatted and only the
selected text is formatted. This is incredibly annoying. How do I go about
turning of this auto-formatting so that only the selected text is updated?

On the Tools menu, click AutoCorrect Options, and then click the AutoFormat
As You Type tab.
Select or clear the options you want.
