Default Cursor won't move in table cells

MS-W2002
All of a sudden my cursor won't move when trying to enter data in a table
cell. Each character writes on top of the previous one. Previously, I had
tables in this same document and had no problem. I deleted the tables and
inserted new replacement tables but the same thing happens. Bet I messed up
some formatting!

If I open a blank doc and put a table in, it will work OK.
Any help appreciated.

Is the document protected in any way?

Thanks, Suzanne.
I deleted the page with the tables and recreated them on a new page. That
fixed my problem.
No, the page was not protected.
Thanks,
Dan
