Default Headers in Word

I want to delete a header off of one page but keep the other headers. When I
try to delete the header it removes all of the headers. Does anyone know how
to delete a header from one page only?

Michele,

Word documents are made up of sections (a new blank document has 1
section). Each section can have up to three different headers or
footers (first page, odd, and even pages). There are several ways to
do what you ask. If the page you want to remove the header from is the
first page in a section, then use FilePage SetupLayout to select a
different first page. If the page is in the middle of the document,
you could use section breaks to divide your document into three
sections and isolate the single page that you don't want a header as
section 2. You can also use conditiona IF fields. For example {IF
{PAGE} = 27 """My Header Text"}

Take a look at http://www.mvps.org/word/FAQs/Number...eNumbering.htm.
While this says it is about page numbering it includes a lot about
conditional headers and footers.

It depends which page it is. Would you care to put something of your own in
a reply?

I have followed procedures set out in the response to Michele - it didn't work. However the header I wish to delete is on the fourth page and this may be the reason it is not responding to deletion.

You'll need to insert section breaks around that page or use an IF field.
See http://sbarnhill.mvps.org/WordFAQs/HeaderFooter.htm for general
information about headers and footers.

Take a look at http://www.mvps.org/word/FAQs/Number...eNumbering.htm for
information on using IF fields. While the examples are for page numbers, you
can use any text you want as your conditional text. For even more, see

Yes Tony, I think that you have hit the nail on the head. The header I wish
to delete is the fourth and final page of my document.

In that case you can use an IF field with this syntax:

{ IF { PAGE } { NUMPAGES } "Text you want in the header on every page but
the last" }

To create this field

1. Cut or copy your header text (all of it).

2. In the header, press Ctrl+F9. This will insert a pair of field
delimiters; they look like braces but can't be entered from the keyboard.

3. Between the braces type IF, then click the Insert Page Number button.

4. Type , then click the Insert Number of Pages button.

5. Type a pair of double quotes; between them, Ctrl+V to paste your
cut/copied header text.

6. F9 to update the field.

7. If you were cautious and copied the header text instead of cutting it,
you can delete it now. g
