Default Footers and page numbering

I have a document on which I need to have a footer on every page, the problem
that I have run into is that the first page does not need page numbering and
when I put in the section break the documents is for some reason saying that
page 1 is now page 2 - this is showing down on my property bar. I have
performed a search and replace to remove all section breaks and manual page
breaks but the document still cannot get the document to recognize page 1 as
page 1 so that I can input the page numbering and the footer text that needs
to be on each page. I know that there has to be a way of fixing this without
having to remove all formatting and starting over. Document is a bit long.
Any and all help is appreciated. Thanks.

Default Footers and page numbering

In this specific case, you can start page numbering at 0.

Unfortunately, I tried this and it did not work. I have so far cut and paste
the text into a new document and right now it seems to be working properly.
I think some how my document just became corrupt. Thanks.
