Default Documents are saved in WordPad instead of Word

I have two computers with Word2003. On one, documents created in Word can
only be saved in WordPad. When I have the document on a memory key in Word,
it saves it in Word on one computer and Wordpad on the other. The "save"
options on the problem computer are Rich Text Format and Text Document.
Microsoft Word 2003 was purchasesd installed (not a copy) two months ago.

What file format is selected on the Save tab of Tools | Options? FWIW,
WordPad is not even one of the options. My guess is that your Word documents
are being displayed with a WordPad icon (which means they'll open in WordPad
if you double-click on them in Windows Explorer but can be opened normally
in Word); if that is the case, see
