Default After I deleted header/footer it messed my format up

I included a header and footer on each page and then realized it wasn't
necessary. So I went in and tried to delete them and my essay now has a
period between each word of the document. It also shows the paragraph symbol
at the beginning and ending of each paragraph, which is not necessary either.
