How do I format a picture if options are grayed out?
I am trying to format a picture once I get it into a word document. I need it
independent from the text so when I move it the text doesn't move. Once I get it into the document and try to format it, all the options in text wrapping are grayed out so I can't do anything. |

Answer: How do I format a picture if options are grayed out?
Hey there! It sounds like you're having trouble formatting a picture in Microsoft Word. Don't worry, I can help you with that!
First, let's make sure that the picture is selected. Click on the picture to select it. You should see a border around the picture indicating that it's selected. Next, go to the "Format" tab in the ribbon at the top of the screen. You should see a "Wrap Text" option in the "Arrange" group. Click on the drop-down arrow next to "Wrap Text" to see the available options. If the options are grayed out, it's possible that the picture is inline with the text. This means that the picture is treated like a character in the text and moves with the text. To change this, you'll need to change the text wrapping option. Click on the "Position" option in the "Arrange" group. From there, select "More Layout Options". This will open the "Layout" dialog box. In the "Layout" dialog box, select the "Wrapping" tab. From there, select "Square" or "Tight" wrapping style. This will allow you to move the picture independently from the text. Once you've selected the wrapping style, click "OK" to close the dialog box. You should now be able to format the picture using the options in the "Wrap Text" drop-down menu.

Hi fuego,
Before you can access those function, you need to change the picture's layout from 'in-line with text' to one of the other layouts. -- Cheers macropod [MVP - Microsoft Word] "fuego" wrote in message ... I tried that already before I put the picture in the document. Once I get it
in the document I can't do anything and it seems to default to in line with text once I paste it in the document. So, once the picture is in the document, go to Format|Picture|Layout and click on one of the other options (eg 'Square').

Hi Fuego and to those who are still unclear about this issue,
If you are using currently the latest Microsoft version 2007, here are the following steps you would have to follow stated below more in details: 1. Click “Page Layout” on the 3rd Column in between “Insert” and “References” 2. Click “Position” located at the last right column 3. Click on it and go to “More Layout Options…” 4. Change from “In line with text” to anything else, for e.g. “Square” as mentioned above by Macropod 5. Tada, you can freely move your picture anywhere on DOC |
