Default formatting

My document that I received has all of the mark ups
It looks like this:
Content-Type: application/rtf; name=".rtf"
Content-Transfer-Encoding: base64
Content-Disposition: attachment; filename=".rtf"

{\rtf1\mac\ansicpg10000\uc1
\deff0\deflang1033\deflangfe1033{\upr{\fonttbl{\f1 \fnil\fcharset256\fprq2{\*\panose
00020b06040202020202}Arial;}{\f2\fnil\fcharset256\ fprq2{\*\panose
00020703090202050204}Courier New;} {\f3\fnil\fcharset2\fprq2{\*\panose

How do I correct this? I tried the tools-options-view and edit functions,
but none of those formatting things are selected.
Please help

In File - Open, make sure that Files of Type is NOT set to "Recover..."

That still doesn't work. Thanks though. When I try to open the file a
dialogue box appears and asks me how I want to open
it--Windows(default)--MS-DOS--or other encoding? Does that help any?
