Default Document numbering is not resetting at 1 each time Word is opened

When I open Word 2003, the Document number that the program generates for
each new worksheet does not reset to Document 1 but rather keeps counting
even after I've exited the program.

Are you using Word as the email editor in Outlook?

Yes, I think so.

Word did not use to do this. It would start at Document1 each time I opened
the software. Now it's up to Document60 and counting up each time a document
is created.

As long as you have Outlook open, then, an instance of Word is also open,
and numbering will not restart until Word is completely shut down.
