Assuming Word 2003 or earlier, go to Tools | Macro | Security | Security
Level and change the security level to Medium. You will then be prompted to enable macros when you open a document that contains them. For macros in templates, check the box for "Trust all installed add-ins and templates" on the Trusted Publishers tab. This will enable macros in templates and add-ins in your User Templates, Workgroup Templates, and Word Startup folders; unfortunately, the trust does not extend to the Office Startup folder. -- Suzanne S.
