How to use Autotext in Word/Outlook 2007
I can't seem to find anywhere to create/use autoext entries in the new 2007
Beta 2. I have loaded the old normal.dot templatewhch contained all my entries but I can't seem to use them. Any ideas? I hope MS hasn't 'discontinued' this feature in 2007! |

Look for Quick Parts and Building Blocks. They're in there somewhere.

How to use Autotext in Word/Outlook 2007
Outlook: The new email editor no longer recognizes AutoText. While the
editor is similar to Word, and shares some defaults, Winword.exe is no longer used as the email editor. You can create Quick Parts, found on a new email message window on the Insert tab in the Text group, which is similar to AutoText. Right now the only way to transfer your old entries is to recreate them. I'm sure there will eventually be a way to transfer them but I'd say that won't be available until either the B2TR or closer to RTM. Word: To recover your AutoText entries for Word, rename Normal.dotm and place your old Normal.dot in the same folder. Then open your Normal.dot in Word, open the Microsoft Office Button (round button with the logo), and click Upgrade. Then save it in the new file format. The AutoText entries should be available. They are now part of Quick Parts/Building Blocks but are part of the AutoText Gallery. If you've already done this then they may already be available but the AutoComplete tip was discontinued due to large number of built-in Quick Parts/Building Blocks in Word 2007. You can insert them using the Building Block Gallery found under the Quick Parts drop down on the Insert tab in the Text group, but you can also type the first few letters and press F3 to insert the entry. (the same applies to Outlook 2007) You can also add the AutoText command to your Quick Access Toolbar in Word 2007 to make this a little easier: (Note that the entries must be in the AutoText Gallery for them to appear in the Live Preview gallery under the AutoText command) - Right-click the Ribbon and select "Customize Quick Access Toolbar". In the "Commands not in the Ribbon", locate "AutoText" and add it to your QAT Or you can add the Building Blocks Organizer by right-clicking the command and select "Add to Quick Access Toolbar". Aside from the unavailable AutoComplete tip, the enhancements they have made are pretty slick. I know at first it may not seem like it to some, but after becoming more familiar with the functionality built around Quick Parts/Building Blocks I'm finding there are several new ways to implement it. :-) Please post all follow-up questions to the newsgroup.
