To start Word with a new document based on a template other than the
Normal template, add the /tTemplateName startup switch at the end of the
winword.exe command. Example: c:\path\winword.exe /tMyfax.dot

1. You do _not_ want to share normal.dot. It should be an individual file.

2. You do _not_ want to replace normal.dot with your own file.

You can use your template to start Word. Put a shortcut to it on your
desktop or in your start menu. Use document templates, such as your own to
create your documents. For more on the different kinds of templates, tabs on
the file new dialog, and locations of templates folders see
http://addbalance.com/usersguide/templates.htm.

See http://addbalance.com/word/movetotemplate.htm for step-by-step
instructions on moving / sharing / copying / backing-up customizations
including AutoText, AutoCorrect, keyboard assignments, toolbars, macros,
etc.

There are a number of ways to get new documents from templates. Most require
vba but not all. You may want to take a look at
http://www.addbalance.com/word/templatesmenu.htm.
