saving after laptop suspend
Hi,
Here's a scenario that happens to me several times a week. I was wondering if anyone has a solution. I am editing a document on a network share. I suspend and resume the laptop. When I resume, word detects that the network has gone away (possibly because it takes a while for the wi-fi to reconnect). sometimes I get a spurious error that the document has changed on the server. Either way I end up with the situation that the document I am editing is now read-only and I have to 'save as' rather than save. However, I can't use save as to overwrite the original document, or go on to the server and delete the original because I still have it locked for editing. At this point I have to either save a local copy, then close and and upload it onto the server, or save it with a new name on the server then close, rename, and re-open. Both of these are a hassle to do, they both pollute my 'recent documents' list with the wrong copy of the document and they are both open to me accidentally deleting or renaming the wrong file. I don't see any reason why word couldn't allow me to overwrite the existing saved document with my current one. Is there any way to achieve this ? Andy |

It won't allow you to save with the same name as the original document lock
file is still present. See http://www.gmayor.com/what_to_do_when_word_crashes.htm If you are going to suspend your laptop, save and close any open documents before doing so to avoid this issue. -- Graham Mayor - Word MVP My web site www.gmayor.com Word MVP web site http://word.mvps.org Andy Fish wrote: Hi, Here's a scenario that happens to me several times a week.
